On only the second use, I was curious to see the exact definition of the word conflate. Entered it as search term, and "word not found." Tried browsing "C" and found the definitions jumped from "conflagration" to "conflict." Had to go home and look it up in my REAL dictionary. In my humble opinion, an incomplete product like this should be free. Woefully inadequate, can't wait to see what other common words are left out. Pain in the ass, really.

The other reviewers appear to address the printed version rather than the Kindle-specific version. I am focusing on the Kindle Application.Strengths -- easily used under Kindle platform, terse, usually is clear in distinguishing parts of speech, and it can be used as the default dictionary.Weaknesses1. Definitions are not necessarily any more complete than those from the New Oxford American Dictionary(already built-in on Kindle). Several that I used tonight were less so.2. Definitions for one part of speech are often dependent on another definition listed for another part of speech (a weakness of many dictionaries that is annoying for more complex or unfamiliar words)----Simple example: the word anger is both a noun and a verb, Thus they define the verb form as "to make angry".3. Thesaurus component is okay and gives additional ideas for the verb "anger". However antonyms are very limited if the purpose is to use this as a writing resource. Very few choices.----For example: antonyms for anger (verb) were delight, gratify and please. But other common options are missing such as calm, sooth, pacify. One would have to keep browsing and unless you set this as the default, you keep ending up in another dictionary when trying to do that.4. Word Origins are sometimes given, mostly abbreviated and with less detail than in Kindle's Default Dictionary.I have not compared word counts. Sheer mass of definitions is a misleading index of quality.

Let's face it, with today's self correcting word processors, the commonality of these dictionaries and thesaurus books have almost gone extinct. Still, they are excellent vocabulary and grammar aids one should have, either on your tablet or your desk. In my generation, these things were coveted gifts one received from parents and grandparents when you moved into middle school or high school. The internet wasn't there to lessen the workload. These books are timeless, and even though I do most of my writing using my laptop, I still enjoy flipping through actual pages of a book to find that which I seek.

This dictionary / thesaurus combination book is serving its purpose well for my two elementary aged boys. They keep it in a handy place and occasionally will look up words for reading or writing assignments. It is a soft cover book which does not take up too much space and the book has vast enough content that most words my young boys look up will be found in there. While it has become easier to simply search-engine words in a computer, knowing how to navigate an actual book is a skill I think it is important for my kids to know.

Definitions are in regular print and synonyms are in Gray beneath each word.. Nice that they're combined so you don't have to search twice. Got it for my son so he wouldn't rely on the internet to search for vocabulary definitions. He thinks it's torture. Totally worth every penny. I just wish it was hard back because we've had it maybe a couple weeks and the paper cover is already all torn up.

This review is for the Kindle Fire version only. The dictionary is absolutely useless.It does not have a search function for looking for words, it does not have an index so you could at least go to the beginning letter of the word you want, it does not have page numbers so you could guess as to what might be the general area a word might be at.You have to flip through individual pages just like you are reading a book.This is complete junk and is useless as a reference book. It would be quicker to drive to the store and by a paper bound dictionary to look the word up then it would be to use this dictionary.I am going to be contacting the seller and asking for my money back, I will never use this dictionary.

The miracle of this volume is a word with a definition followed by synonyms and antonyms where applicable. It could lead one's mind to wander, follow a journey of related words. For my 4th grader whose mom points him to the googleverse, this is a godsend.

Actually, I would prefer to give it zero stars. The problem with it is the search process: when you give it a term to look up, it starts at the beginning of the database, and searches through to the end. On my admittedly low end tablets, this is an intolerably long process and I find the whole package unuseable. If one could search between word lookup and thesaurus search it would probably be usable. However, they have not made this capability, if it exists, discoverable. I will look into returning it for just the dictionary. Thumbs down on this product unless you have a blazingly fast tablet.

It took me a while, but I finally realized the best way to beat diabetes at its own game was to eat more veggies. While I haven't fully embraced vegetarianism, I have taken to many of the recipes here because they are flavorful, adaptable and well-balanced. Variety is important to keep one's mouth happy, and many of these recipes fit that bill. What is so nice about these recipes is that 1) many require only 4 ingredients which makes them easy to do; 2) they taste good and are easy to prepare; 3) they try to balance out the carbs, proteins and fats we're all trying to balance to keep refueling the ol' engine to keep it running longer. I like the variety of dishes that use mushrooms and beans to provide the protein and these give me options to try when I get into a rut.I've lost weight, have energy and my blood glucose levels are right where they need to be. My blood pressure and cholesterol levels are better than ever. And I don't really think of this as a diet or a phase-- I really can eat these dishes and feel good. I've made a few for family events and they're hits and I have at least one dish I can dig into. While I'm not really a vegetarian since I do eat chicken and fish, I'm finding that I really enjoy eating these vegetarian dishes and trying out some meals I normally wouldn't have tried. With these, I'm healthier and more satisfied.

I was expecting to see more recipes that had a better carbohydrate to protein ratio in this cookbook. I was surprised to see recipes that were as much as 90% Carb to 10% protein - not good. There are a couple of recipes that look really interesting, but most I feel like have seen before in other books.

My doctor won't let me use this book because it has so many carbs in the recipes. This is no book for even me a borderline diabetic. I can't eat pasta, bread, sugar flour etc and this book as all of that in it :(

What a great cookbook! I bought this recently because my husband was told that he is pre-diabetic. We have been vegetarians for about 20 years and we do eat a lot of carbs (unfortunately). This cookbook is wonderful. Every recipe that I have tried so far has been super flavorful and you don't even miss the reduced carbs. All of the ingredients are things you can find in your local supermarket- no specialty high end markets needed. I only wish there was a photo for every recipe! I am so pleased with this book. The recipes are truly yummy.

I've tried many of the recipes in this book and they were all good. It's really helpful to have a book like this when you run out of meal ideas and want something a little different.

I needed a vegetarian book, due to kidney problems complicated by diabetes. This was perfect. I have already made a soup and a stir-fry. Plan to make a pasta this weekend. simple, quick, and tasty. right up my alley these days!

Lots of good, easy-to-follow recipes. I'm new a vegetarian cooking and this has some great dishes. I feel like the recipes are original--not ones I could have found with an easy Google search or two.

I've only made a couple of the recipes so far, but I've browsed through the whole book and I find it very interesting and helpful for someone who is pre-diabetic and trying to stay out of trouble :)

Book arrived well packaged in a timely manner. Thank you!This book gives a wonderful overview how how cars evolved the way they did in general and why the big 3 deservedly face stiff competition. It goes into the personalities to the extent that you better understand the thinking of the companies themselves.Although only a brief chapter on Mr. Honda is included, you end up understanding as the book progresses what an impact Honda has on cars today.You may end up thirsting for more details of these men's lives and books written about or by them.

I'm not entirely convinced that these guys are the ones MOST IMPORTANT to the modern auto industry, but it certainly was interesting reading their stories!! Anyone who is a car buff, or interested in the business will likely love this book. I've already read a great deal about Iaccoca, but this book makes me want to find out more . . . and I am already pondering the purchase of books about Honda - what a cool, self made dude!! Anyway, I heartily recommend this . . .

I bought this book thinking it would be 6 mini-biographies. Instead, it's 20 random stories that the author threw up in the air, and how they landed, he tried to connect the dots to tie it to these six guys. The chapters were spent intertwining the six men even if the events did not really tie together.Also, there is a lot of repeated data, and not very good convincing of some of the guys. I think Henry Ford II is in the book because he hired good people. I'm sure he was a great exec, but this book doesn't explain that other than he hired the Whiz Kids.I would have preferred the book being: here is person 1, here is why he was important. this is what he did. Here is person 2...etc.Instead it's here's all these events that happened, this one guy was working at this company at that time. but that event is like this other event that happened at a different company at a different time. Very hard to follow.If you want to read the book, borrow a copy, and read the second to last chapter on Iacocca. It's the only decent chapter in the book.

I really enjoyed this book and found it hard to put down. It doesn't read like a typical biography focused on names and dates but rather it reads like a story worth telling. The only criticism I had with the book is that I thought the author could have found a way to weave in some stories about John DeLorean who was also pretty important to the auto industry.

Well researched.Not all of the business bios were as complete as others...BMW's VonKuenheim bio was comparitively superficial.Written in 2005... BREATH-TAKING; defies description. Instantly soothes, enchants, mesmerizes while simultaneously provoking deep thoughts, questions, and emotions. Every card is just gorgeous, defies description, and transporting me right into it. So many layers to explore.The booklet reads like a close friend; only wish it was a more detailed, full-sized book (a la Tarot of Vampyres by Ian Daniels type of book). Top 3 of my (very) large tarot / oracle collection (with the Nicoletta Ceccoli Tarot and Oracle; and Wisdom of the Oracle by Collette Baron-Reid); I can see it moving into the top position and remaining there a very long time. No words-just magical.

From amazing artwork to lyrical writing, this oracle has it all. While the artwork has a dreamy, old-fashioned sensibility, the messages do not. I really loved that there were quirky phrases that made me really think. As a professional reader, I tend to look at the book after working with the cards for a bit. I found Catrin Welz-Stein's art to be easy to draw inspiration from.One, in particular, is a dandelion repurposed as a hot-air balloon. One figure is holding on to a seed as it departs from the "mother ship" of the main puffball. The phrase on this card is "A New Direction" which I found to be clear as a bell from the art. Another shows a woman sitting on a mushroom. She holds a parasol over her head as the card declares "Oh Sunny Day".The guidebook (really chunky with good information) offers up Welz-Stein's mystical meanderings. This is a deck that will find its way into my reading decks. I've already used it on my YouTube (arwen61) to see how it did. My response and my audience's response were very similar. Loved it.This fresh approach to the system of oracle divination is a very good one. It's not your grandparent's oracle for sure.

I really love the art work. I love the card stock and size, too. I have been receiving very profound messages from this deck. I usually pull one card as a summary/punctuation of my Tarot reading. It works perfectly for me this way. This deck is a great addition to my collection. I'm very happy to work with this deck! :)

This is one of the most beautiful oracles I've come across to date. The box in which the cards rest is very well made as is the stock upon which the cards are printed. The cards flow freely in the hand and don't stick together in the least. As they pass from one hand to the other, it becomes evident that this is a special experience about to unfold. The cards display a profound and unique beauty and a dialogue begins with one's heart, prompting gentle - and quite accurate, I might add - guidance to the seeker. Even simply holding and witnessing the images seems to instill a sense of calm and wonder about ourselves and the life in which we inhabit. The booklet accompanies the cards beautifully, seeming to amplify a song being sung directly to one's intuition and soul. Needless to say, I am very pleased with this purchase and am grateful to Catrin and to the publisher for delivering a high-quality and elegant product.

Really lovely deck. It's dreamy, whimsical and gorgeous. It's more than just pretty art, though. The deck has a large number of cards with a range of meanings that allows for nice readings.

Very nice and wellmade deck and box. Eveything is quality, including the book. Working with it is very intuitive, and like other reviewers mentioned, the meanings behind the cards can take some time to reveal themselves. It is definitely a great deck for newbiews and seasoned card collectors. The artwork is beyond words.

I was very excited to receive this deck. Thankfully it did not disappoint! The images are very nice, inspiring and so intricate in many ways. The meanings and descriptions right on. Card stock is good and the deck reads very well alone and also paired up with a Tarot reading.

Gotta' laugh that the author purposely used a title that would upset perfectionists. (Should be "perfection" not perfect.)There are valuable lessons in this book. Learning to live with "good enough" is something I continue to strive for. No, good enough doesn't mean less than. Read the book and you'll understand. The author's anecdotes combined with studies make persuasive arguments about abandoning perfection, a futile pursuit.

Tal has an incredibly engaging writing style. He articulates the complex intricacies of perfectionism in simple, easy to digest chunks. This makes it very easy to identify and relate to the principles and experiences that he writes about. While I haven't completed many of the exercises/meditations from the book, as I'm not completely finished reading it, it has already brought me great peace knowing that I am not alone. As a struggling perfectionist, it has given me great hope that I can change, become human again, and feel and accept the full range of human emotion after being a perfectionist for so many years. This book is one of very few books that I would recommend in recognition of, and recovery from perfectionism.

This book made me realize that I have always been a perfectionist and that it is one of the reasons I have always suffer of depression... Now that I understand more about this, and that we can and should be optimalists, Im sure I can learn to live more happily and punishing myself less and less after a mistake or failure. Great book. Highly recommend it !!!!

Has Tal Ben-Shahar written any bad books?! The guy is a pioneer in happy psychology and will to pave the way for psychology as a whole. I just love reading his books and will be a lifetime fan of his.Wish I could sit with Tal and pick his brain more!

I think the title of the book could be misleading for some people, as many wouldn't label themselves as perfectionists , Tal Ben Shahar proves in his theory that we all have struggles in perfectionism in one field of life or another which is very true to me. I prefer to call this book: The book of change, in which the author takes us into a journey of self reflections, self insights & subsequently a chance for a meaningful change only through the HARD WORK of sincere implementations of the exercises.His unique writing style mingles philosophy & the best of academic research in cognitive psychology all together in a persuasive presentation. The exercises are persuasive enough because they all stand on the solid ground of empirical evidence.What took me in awe were the closing 10 meditations, or better to call them the 10 wisdoms .In conclusion, a unique work indeed, bringing a deeper and more mature level, for a more happier life.

The online Portion of this book is awesome, lots of great questions and they line up well with all of the NCLEX review that I've done, there's multiple test modes and you can select the type of questions you get from a simple interface. That being said, the book is useless. You basically have to fold the pages in half in order to not see the answers, unless you have some crazy visual trick for completely blocking out half of your line of site (covering one eye aint gonna cut it). So here you are with a flimsy paper textbook, trying to hold it open when folding the page one way for 2 questions and then folding it the other way for the next 2, maybe trying to put a piece of paper down fast enough to actually block out the answers before you see them. You end up focusing more attention on using the book than actually studying the information in the book.Also, if you plan to study on a mobile device, don't buy this book. The web interface doesn't translate well to smaller screens, although it's very functional and has great information, it appears to be quite dated. The other reason for not purchasing it for a mobile device is that there is an app out there that the publisher doesn't appear to actually be the producer of, but they have licensed their questions to, the app costs the same as the book, but the book DOES NOT come with access to the app. So if you want access to the questions from mobile and that will be your primary study platform I would highly recommend going to the play store and looking for it (the picture of the cover will be the same as the one on this page).

I am pleased to report that there is life beyond stick figures and happy faces! As a writer, I wake up each morning and scribble in my journal for a while. Now I have added DRAWING FOR JOY to my routine, which is nicely enhancing my urge to create. This book is gorgeous and welcomes you, rather than intimidates you. I feel like a brand new student embarking on an exciting journey. By next year at this time, I just might be calling myself a fledgling artist.

As an illustrator, painter and art educator, I can think of no better a manual for the recreational a artist to learn to draw. I highly recommend the exercises for anyone who wants to explore and expand their creativity. It comes complete with an artistic license, so that participants may draw freely without fear of being pulled over by the art police. a copy of "Drawing for Joy" would be a great investment, the return being hours of fun. Never mind the fact that my sister is the author.

As a life long stick figure doodler, it was time to stretch outside my comfort zone. Did I mention that my stick figures look the same as they did when I first drew them 55 yrs ago in kindergarten? I bought a few learn to draw books but wasn't happy with them. They didn't cover supplies and mechanics of drawing, nor break it down by showing examples. Then this gem of a book arrived! Nicely laid out, organized, and daily art starts. Pointers and tips, and even I am impressed by how much I've learned. Buying a few more for Christmas.On a side note, I have found using colored pencils has made it easier as I'm a little older and my hands shake. The pressure of the colored pencil lead on paper helps me draw straighter lines. The red gel pen i tried to use made my sketches look like an EKG that went wild.

I LOVE this book!! The design of the book is beautiful and well thought out. It begins with a quick Mindfulness Meditation which is encouraged before you start each daily drawing. I have always found coloring to be very relaxing and I'm excited to intentionally begin my art process with mediation.The Essentials are discussed next which include a brief description of pens, pencils, markers and erasers that you may want to use. The author mentions what she prefers to use as well as other brands that work well. I really appreciate her suggestions as I've never heard of some of these utensils!The Elements of Art are then discussed and these are referred to as the building blocks which include areas like color, texture and space.The Daily drawing prompts are then grouped into Themed Weeks and watching the progression is exciting! I admittedly don't know much about drawing but I know I enjoy coloring. Whenever I see the Starbucks cups that people have turned into beautiful works of art I am always in awe and slightly jealous! I want to do that but I've never felt like I knew where to start. After reading through this book I feel like I will have all the tools necessary to create my own Starbucks cup art as well as many more pieces ;)My favorite unexpected treat from this book.... my five year old son sat next to me at the kitchen table while I worked on my Day 1 exercise. He enjoyed watching me so much that he got out his notebook and pencils to "work with me". I just placed an order for his own Drawing for Joy book so we can create together!Many thanks to the artist/author for such a wonderful book!

I received this book as a gift, and actually just bought another one to give to a friend. The book mixes really practical and simply presented instruction with exercises that are freeing, and, as the title states, JOYFUL! As an artist I sometimes get blocked or stuck, and I have been using the book reconnect me with the reasons I make art in the first place. Stephanie Peterson Joneses illustrations are delightful, and honestly, the whole book is a lovely meditation on what it means to be creative, and why we sorely need to do a little drawing every day!

I'm only two days into using this book, but already I'm loving it! I've shown my daughters this book and now they each want one too, to work on it with me. The 1st day is simply drawing different kinds of lines. I ended up with a ton of ideas, and never realized how simple it can be to spruce up a page with just some fun lines. I also love that each day's practice only takes about 15 minutes, making it easier to fit it in to my super busy days.

I’ve got a new daily rhythm, and it’s thanks to this book! I’m enjoying the daily art starts, and I feel confident that by the end of the year I’ll be able to draw much better than I am now.

I gave this to my tween daughter who is very creative and this book has captivated her, but looking through it I would think would be great for a creative adult as well. Would be great for anyone looking to explore their creative skills by committing to a couple of minutes of daily drawing. Each day prompts you to try something new. There's a daily activity to get you started, but also gives you the freedom to explore your own creativity. Recommend and will buy for friends- great birthday present!

This is a fun little book, some text about San Francisco and the sites, lots of information about the street cars and the cable cars. Most anybody who liked a visit to San Francisco would like this one.

I operated most of those vehicles both in testing and in service. Started on Muni equipment in 1968 and the vehiclesin the book are the best equipment the Muni had. The new Breda and Boeing cars were a disaster.

This is a wonderful book describing the trolleys in San Francisco. If you are an enthusiast, you will want it in your library.

Colorful and complete guide to the historic streetcars.
