I had a very talkative class this year. We read this book as a read aloud and my kids came up with doing our own version of the "no talking" game. They went all day without a single word. They learned that they don't have to scream or really talk to get their point across. Seriously AMAZING book that granted me the best day of my teaching career to date. My second graders were constantly asking to read the next chapter to see what happens. Highly recommend.

I would strongly recommend this book, as well as any other Andrew Clements title!As a fourth grade elementary teacher, Andrew Clements is hands down my favorite author! He writes funny and entertaining school stories that kids can connect with. However, his plots are always clever and original, with his well developed characters often stumbling across profound academic and social truths. The perspectives of teachers and other authority figures are presented along with the students' in a respectful, reflective manner. I use Andrew Clements' books extensively in literature circle groups with my students, as his novels provoke a great deal of discussion from my students.
I bought this book on a whim and ended up using it in my classroom as a class novel. It encompasses great ideas like: silence, the way in which we use words, communication, and the effect words can have on people. It is also a clean read, which means there is nothing objectionable in it. That is hard to find these days. It is a great book to touch on the concept of bullying and being unkind.
This was a really good book. But more importantly my 8 year old son entering third grade, was able to read it and really enjoyed it also. It's in that class of books that are funny and deliver messages without making you think I get it I get it enough already. My son came home from school in June with a reading list and I tried to steer him towards this book, because I had enjoyed Frindl by the same author when my older son had to do summer reading several years ago. I recommend this book to kids and to the parents who read along with their kids.
As a fifth grade teacher of chatty students, I find this a fun book. Andrew Clements is one of my favorite authors for grades 5-6. In this book, the whole grade is called "The Unshushables" by teachers at the school. The kids decide to have a contest: Who can go without talking--the boys or the girls? They have to work out a system. It is a fun book to read aloud with a group of students!
It was an awesome book. My son had to read it for his summer assignment and all of us got into the book. You just had to to do one more chapter everytime because you wanted to know how it worked out. Was an awesome book. It held his and all our attention.
This was a present for my daughter and she just loved reading this book.
I give this book 4 stars because it was so detailed and there was a lot of cliff hangers. The one thing that really annoyed me was that there was a lot of grammar problems like words put together and in a middle of a sentence it would just skip a paragraph. Other than that I loved the book and I had a great time reading it.
