Very helpful in understanding the New Age Movement and its "Christian counterpart" - Christian mysticism, which isn't really Christian at all. Flynn was a New Age Medium who was saved out of bondage and came into relationship with Christ. He began seeing the ways of his old life in churches, just under a different name, and now writes to warn Christians of the danger. Check out a 14-part interview with him by Bob Dewaay on Critical Issues Commentary. Be blessed.

As someone who has experienced many of the same practices as the author this book is a very honest look at just where the christian churches are headed. His personal story is an interesting read. He then goes into fair detail of many of the new age practices and what they look like "christianized". He isnt bashing popular leaders, just merely using well researched and experienced arguments as to why we need to be paying attention to what is being taught in our church.

I'm delighted to be the first to review this well written, Scripturally accurate book on various new age modalities that are no longer only being practiced by the world, but are also increasingly often promoted by the church. For many years Brian Flynn was heavily involved in various new age occult practices such as Transcendental Meditation and channeling. Brain so messed up his life that eventually he was forced to declare bankruptcy. At the same time he lost his home and car, his wife divorced him. Shortly thereafter, Brain gave his heart to Jesus Christ.How discouraging it was for Brain to see some of the new age practices such as centering prayer, which is just another name for T.M. being taught in the church. In centering prayer, one shuts down their thoughts through repeating a word or phrase (mantra) or focusing on their breath. Eventually this allows a person to experience a state of altered consciousness. The trouble with blanking out your mind is that this allows spirits of darkness to enter in. One of the major advocates of centering prayer, Richard Foster warns those that use this type of prayer to be careful of this happening. Nowhere is this type of prayer taught in the Bible. Also, would God have believers using a type of prayer which would leave them open to demons entering into their lives? Rick Warren in his book, "The Purpose Driven Life," advocates breath prayers which are one form of centering prayer.In "Running Against the Wind" Brain not only alerts you to the dangers of centering prayer, but also gives you the facts on other new age teachers and practices. It arms you with the facts necessary to keep from being deceived and using new age practices yourself. It also equips you to help others do the same.

This author speaks with first-hand knowledge of the subject. The book will inform you of the dangerous practices going on in our evangelical Christian churches that are contrary to the Scriptures. Many of these practices are blindly and ignorantly accepted without knowing what danger lies ahead.

Great book explaining a lot of the New Age/Eastern Religion & Mysticism coming into Christian churches. I've bought several copies, which are hard to find, and handed them out. Sent one with my daughter to read when she went off to Bible college.

A page-turner real life story of one man's descent into the powerful, seductive spiritual deceptions of the New Age (sorcery, divination, mysticism) and his glorious deliverance through the saving grace of Jesus Christ. This is sadly followed by his eye-opening discovery of New Age infiltration into Christianity. Every believer needs to be aware of these trends that are so subtle and ubiquitous, powerfully reinforced by the media with its effect of gradually shifting our world-view to align to New Age & postmodernism, making it that much easier to lure us away from the 'faith once for all delivered' to us. A true wake up call for all to return to the true Gospel and to start contending for this faith.
