This was a very good material. Good information and very easy to understand.

Wolfgang Karl Härdle is a Ladislaus von Bortkiewicz Professor of Statistics at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and director of C.A.S.E. (Center for Applied Statistics and Economics), director of the CRC-649 (Collaborative Research Center) “Economic Risk” and director of the IRTG 1792 “High Dimensional Non-stationary Time Series”. He teaches quantitative finance and semi-parametric statistics.  His research focuses on dynamic factor models, multivariate statistics in finance and computational statistics. He is an elected member of the ISI (International Statistical Institute) and advisor to the Guanghua School of Management, Peking University.Léopold Simar is an Emeritus Professor of Statistics at Université de Louvain, Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium. I first heard about Steve Harvey and Jump from a co-worker that recommended the video. After viewing the video, I immediately purchased the book. My life hasn't been the same since that day.I was caught in a job I hated, with a 6 hour daily commute (due to construction and traffic), and I honestly was miserable. I realized that the career I have spent my professional and educational life working towards was NOT for me (I was a Counselor). I'd been toying with making a change, but I was terrified. I wasn't sure if it was worth it. Everyone I spoke with, said to keep with the job I hated because it was stable, it paid well, etc.After reading the book, and watching the video a million times, it happened. I took my jump. Now, it hasn't been smooth sailing the entire time. I was unemployed for a while. But my journey brought me from DC to OK. A completely different way of life, and living. I found a job that only has a 15 minute commute, 20 minutes if there is "traffic." (Seriously, traffic in OK does not compare to the DC traffic haha). Yes, I make significantly less. However, for the first time in 10 years, I am actually happy. Like, truly happy. Not fake happy. No mask to hide behind. My smile is real. My laugh is no longer fake.My journey may not be for everyone, and honestly I don't recommend quiting your job tomorrow. I do recommend thought, reading the book, watching the video, and truly taking a look at your life. This may be that gentle push you need to take back control of your life.

I love Steve Harvey and found this book a friendly reminder of the basics, work hard, be grateful for the season and reason HE has, honor God and don't be afraid of taking risks. This is not a book for those who don't care for Christian or religious themes, but it's still a delight to read about how he's evolved in the second part of his life. I also love reading about the love and devotion Steve has for his family, and the virtues of hard work and sacrifice - needed especially in this instant gravitation time we are in now.It gets 4 stars because it doesn't say anything you couldn't find in other mainstream Christian motivational books but still a good read if you need help to transition your dreams into a reality.

I love reading spiritual books from real people, and by “real,” I mean everyday people, with warts and all. People have a preconceived notion about Christianity, and it is nothing how the media, politicians, and even many Christians portray it. It is about having a personal relationship with God, one that brings peace of mind, love, generosity and prosperity for all. Steve Harvey shows us a glimpse of his journey throughout his career — his trials, his failed marriages, and his slow rise to success and beyond — and he does it with a gentle voice. He even talks about the whole Miss Universe debacle, and how it had affected him. The unfortunate incident led him to more growth, but it wasn’t easy. I loved reading this book, because people think that all of our problems disappear once prosperity sets in, or by having God in our lives. We forget that God is not a fixer upper, and that we have to accept personal responsibility and clean up our mess, with His guidance. The Bible is full of flawed people, because no one is perfect. I recommend this fast read, along with Tyler Perry’s Higher Is Waiting. These men show us a tender heart beneath the successful and talented facade. Their gifts run deep, and thanks to their faith, they are successful AND at peace. I give Jump five solid Maple Pecan lattes!

This isn't for everyone. You have to be open and ready for this message. When you are ready, this contains encouragement to cheer you on the follow through. Mr. Harvey not only witnesses the process, but the divine God who gave the gift in the first place.

What a pleasure to spend time with them as they adapt to the simple pleasures – and new challenges – of living in tiny Stehekin, WA. Graville’s clear prose and thoughtful voice hooked me from page one; reading her book is like sitting down with a wise friend.

I loved this book! Iris writes beautifully about leaving a fast-paced and stressful life in te city and moving to a remote village among the nature. She shares the practical aspects of the experience but also her inner 'work' to achieve a more balanced life. This book is definitely inspiring for anyone who is dissatisfied with modern life and wishes to live a slower and more meaningful life.

Wonderful. By turns upbeat and pensive, this is a deeply satisfying read, on every level. Readers will be encouraged to seek their own equilibrium through Iris Graville’s own journey.

This well-written memoir inspired me - a courageous story of following one's path. I highly recommend this title and other works by this author!

This is a good introduction to being or accompanying an emergency room patient. It gives clear descriptions of how ER docs evaluate and triage cases, select treatment options and get the patient ready to go home or to full hospital care depending. What I was expecting was a little more about how emergency medicine works or what you should do in an emergency before you get to the hospital or when you can't get there. This is about how emergency medicine is practiced in an ER, not about emergency medicine per se, which makes the Medical School for Everyone label a little strong. So if you want to learn about dealing with medical injuries, this ain't it. If, on the other hand, you have a child that often gets sick or has minor accidents that require stitches or a cast, this will give you a lot of insight into what's going on.

Why would somebody buy this for 25$ when you can have unlimited access to all of The great courses for 25$?? Unfortunately I made this mistake twice.Other than that this was a great lesson!

One cannot beat the writing of Willa Cather. Often overlooked in the western canon of literature, Cather's short stories are unforgettable. She writes with profound yet simple clarity; her vivid descriptions create for the reader exacting images in one's mind. Along with her gift of writing, Cather has a gift of telling stories of ordinary experiences – ordinary experiences that reveal the extraordinary elements of reality. I began to read Cather when I was 10 years old, and I continue to return to her books well into my adulthood. As I re-read her short stories, it is as though I am reading them again for the first time – they are that compelling.

Willa Catha, a writer I discovered by accident, to me is one of the great US writers. I have read book after book by her, and am glad still more are waiting for me to read.Youth and the Bright Medusa, is a book of short stories that continues her theme throughout her writing. "If you want to live fully, you must find what it is that is satisfying to you, you must find your passion". You must also recognize where those around you are invested in keeping you where they want you to be, having nothing to do with you and what satisfies you at all. It is the old American story, don't try to be uppity and someone other than who we want you to be. That being said, we have also all heard, "You can be whatever you want to be", while at the same time those same people do their best to hold you back. As Willa Cather stresses in this and her other books, "Get out there and be who you are. If you do not do that, you will live an unsatisfying life". You do not want to end your your life asking yourself: "What happened to me?"

This book is a collection of short stories that Willa Cather published in various periodicals between 1905 and 1920. Four of them, I believe, had previously appeared in an earlier short-story collection, The Troll Garden. With one exception, the stories are about the lives of various artists, mostly female singers, but include one painter, one sculptor, and indirectly, one composer. The stories are written in Cather's calm, but realistic, style. She doesn't much romanticize things, but shows life as it is. Cather is a true gem and I should be ashamed of myself for not having discovered her some half century ago.

Be sure to read "My Antonia" and "O Pioneers" before you read "Youth and the Bright Medusa." The first two are true masterpieces. I'm not sure that "Youth" is her third-best book. Try something else, instead, but DO read Willa Cather.

I was surprised to learn that this was a book of short stories, which I normally don't read. However, these were so well crafted that each one held my interest while reading it and was thought provoking for days afterwards.

Willa Cather was not a short story writer. This volume, published in her lifetime, collects what she considered the best of her short stories. They're dreadful. None are worth reading. Again and again the protagonists of her stories are shown as alienated and oppressed by the society they live in. Cather seems to believe that the artistic temperament deserves reward merely for existing. But Cather couldn't solve the difficult task of showing an artist at work, creating great art. Thus the characters seem like so many hogs. Today they would be bawling and rioting and looting the streets, peacefully protesting that awful beast Trump...In all the book, there's only one bit worth remembering, the closing line of "Paul's Case":Then because the picture making mechanism was crushed, the disturbing visions flashed into black, and Paul dropped back into the immense design of things.This is a clever way to describe the last instant of a suicide's life. It is not enough to redeem a short story, let alone a collection. Cather needed space to achieve her own great art. YOUTH AND THE BRIGHT MEDUSA is a bad book, which should not have been published.
