My son is 11 and autistic, his reading level is 3rd to 4th grade. We read this book together and spend a lot of time talking about the words we are reading. I have to explain everything in great detail so the lessons are long. I am a nurse so I am a bit critical about the material but I find everything is well written and accurate. I like the book however I find the material to be beyond what children have to know, as in MEMORIZE. I would not try to have my son memorize the material since such details are given to the material and the introduction to new large words are given at every turn. I use this more as an introduction to the body as a whole, to organs, to functions, bones, blood, and all in between. Pictures included.

We love this book. I am using it with my 5 children ranging in ages 8-11 (with a 3 year old along for the ride). Reasons I love it:1. Captivating- The lessons are communicated in a way that is interesting enough to keep attention and aid in memory retention-thorough education (and more) of anatomy and physiology without being dry.2. Activities- simple and easy to throw together at the last minute. I usually just look over what I plan on covering for the next 2 weeks to make sure I have supplies and do last minute prep right before teaching.3. I am able to easily make this work for our variety of age ranges/styles- They all have the notebooks that accompany this book and it took me a while to figure this out- but I just assign something simple for each of them to do before/after or during the reading.4. Christian apologetic perspective. I hear a lot of arguments against Christianity. It's so nice to have an intelligent fun curriculum that helps the children defend their faith. I debated in college. This stuff rocks.Highly recommend- what I would change/add? Something that is not necessary but has been helpful is for me to read through the part we will be reading for the day and to have some kind of simple introductory activity or question or thought to get us started- it seems to help in making the lessons seem more complete. Also, There is not a lot of instruction for the accompanying notebooks for the children to write in/complete. But, it's flexibility in what you can do with it is helpful as well. The notebook has a lot of great activities.

We love this book! I was expecting it to be sort of hokey with cheesy Christian references, but I am super impressed at the detail and level of biblical instruction included in each chapter. My children love reading about science in terms of religion, and so do I. We will continue to buy textbooks from this company. The science experiments require just the right amount of involvement--not too much, not too little--which works perfect for me as I'm not a parent that likes a lot of prep work for a science experiments that cause clutter or will be quickly thrown away.

Although our family believes in evolution, this is an excellent book for learning about the human body as well as a source for opening up discussion about religious diversity.

Excellent for elementary & middle school science curriculum- great creation science reading for anyone! Everything points to our original creation, and how everything has intelligent design. This is one of the better creation science curriculums out there. It can be used alone, or supplement with other anatomy books- but really, this teaches quite a lot on the subject, and is pretty well put together. Although it does teach enough for a standalone science curriculum, I like to go online or use some of the better known mainstream kids/young adult science series for supplementation (though usually only for imagery- we agree with Jeannie Fulbrights Creation Science model). Our above average 4th grade reader can sit and read this on her own and learn a lot. I do read it with all 3 of our kids (from K-4th grade) but I allow our oldest to read ahead on her own as well. I learn just as much as them as I'm teaching-- some I was taught and forgot- but some new things as well! It really is a good book to use as home school curriculum from Kindergarten all the way through middle school. Most high school aged kids may actually learn a lot from this book as well- it all depends on what they have learned in their schooling thus far. Everybody will get something from this book. As a homeschooling mother of 3, I have been- and continue to teach a bit of everything in Science- but I do like to teach from a platform that Creation based. The whole Exploring Creation series should be purchased and used throughout Elementary & Middle school if you can buy them all! They can even be used into high school if you haven't gone through them all by then. Great for any Creation Science curriculum.

This is very well done and excellent for a variety of ages. We use it for home schooling our boys, ages 12 and 6, and it works well with both learning levels. Yesterday my older son helped my younger to fill in the names of the bones on their skeleton print-outs. There are some good activities included and the lessons are clear, easy to understand, and their review methods help us to remember what we've learned.

My 6th grader and I are enjoying the conversational style of this book, as well as the experiments. This year I splurged and purchased a kit from Amazon, but most of the supplies needed are easy to find on Amazon or at Walmart or a dollar store.

We are using this for homeschool curriculum this year. My 10 and 12 year old are thoroughly enjoying our study. I tend to reinforce and supplement as needed according to their demands. I highly recommend.

This book, coupled with the French red guide and booking.com, will almost guarantee travelers a happy trip to the Loire.

I lived in France for ten years. No one there would think of setting out on a new trip withou the relevant Michelin map and corresponding Green Guide.

Probably the only guide you'll need to visit the chateaux country of France. Covers all the castles of course--in just enough detail--but also the cities and villages of the region with suggestions of where to stay and eat, whether you are on a budget or not. An extensive `History' section fills you in on all the background you need. Also a detailed `Nature' section and `Arts and Culture' for those looking for a little extra.

Only slightly larger than a pocket size, this diminutive 360-page book packs incredibly rich volume of information about various chateaux of the Loire Valley, although they are mostly those chateaux that are publicly accessible. Hence, this book is not for people who are looking for information on private chateaux for either rent, lease or purchase, as the information for chateaux of those categories are not in it. But the inserts of historical tidbits surrounding many of the chateaux included therein are interesting and helpful in making the driving trip infinitely more enjoyable.

Concise, clear guide. Very helpful and full of cogent facts. A must for first time visitors to the Loire Valley.

This is a publication ALL nurses and hopefully many interested in how nurses are portrayed, the history of nurses, will read. There are so many facets to the profession covered. It will make you question anyone in the medical profession, excluding those working with children, who dress up in childish prints, etc. Images of nurses with nurse caps should be banned, other than for historical references. Excellent reading.

Thanks for making a kindle edition. This was a required reading for my NP program and I can definitely do without more paper textbooks weighing me down.On the whole I'd say it was easy reading and made many valid points every nurse should review, even if he or she decides to disagree with them. Nurses are encouraged to give up childish imagery, take credit for technical knowledge and skill, and work to reform the image of the nurse from that of an "angel" who is "all heart" to that of a competent and equal collaborator in care. This book provides specific guidance on what language to use when speaking about nursing to the public and gives examples of strategies one can use to improve nursing's image. It also can serve to help raise awareness in nurses minds about the subtle things embedded in what we do and say that unintentionally undermine respect for our profession. I'd say any nurse could benefit from reading this.If you're a student wanting to know if it's worth your time, I say yes.

The nurses in my BSN Leadership & Management class and I enjoyed this book (it was mandatory to read and do a paper on). It made us realize how nurses are viewed by the public and how we can improve our image. It also came in very handy in Health Policy. The point of the book is how nurses can reach out to the media to express our valuable opinions on health. Not enough nurses are asked (nor do they volunteer) information about health policy, and taking care of patients . One of the things nurses do better than anyone.

Great book. Written by two female journalists, the women writers clarify the history of the nursing image. The authors view nurses as competent professionals. However, the public, especially the doctors, view nurses as matronly helpers or sexy goddesses of care. The female journalists implore nurses to fight for a new identity and to speak up.

I needed this book for a graduate level course. The book is actually a very interesting read! I had no difficulty accessing the book in my kindle app on my Mac computer. I prefer physical copies of books but use electronic versions because it is cheaper. No complaints with this purchase!

This textbook is required for a BSN completion course I am taking. While it definitely is interesting, and challenges nurses to re-frame the dialogue surrounding our profession, it's a bit off-putting that it was not written with at least one contributing nurse author. However, taken as a whole, it offers solid examples of how nurses undermine their own images and professional roles when engaged in public and even private discussions, and outlines ways to change the representation of our profession to more closely align with its realities.

EVERY nurse should read this book. I loved this book. I will admit I had to read it for school but I recommend this book to all my colleagues. Wish residents and doctors had to read it!

Vaillant’s sorcery is in his ability to take you inside the head of the hunted villagers, the hunters, and the Amur tiger, as if you are there. The whole thing reads like a thriller, and yes, you will probably stay up way too late reading it. I came away with a deeper appreciation of the majesty of nature and our place in it as current top predator.

This book is an exciting true story that seems impossible to put down at times. The Tiger that is being hunted by and hunting man is a complex individual with motives that seem both rational and moral when analysed by the scientists and people who live among them. The Tiger only hunts the individuals who hurt him or his family or pose an active threat to him. Tigers have existed for thousands of years next to men who respect them and accept their right to live and hunt to survive. The tigers have lived peacefully among the men who have refused to hunt or harm them.By the end of this book you will support efforts to save the Amir tiger from extinction. The welfare of the tiger is a significant indication of the health of the society which surrounds him.

I loved this book. I read an excerpt of it in a magazine and I was hooked. I bought it and read it in a few days. It's a great window into an animal and a part of the world that I didn't know anything about but found fascinating. It's years later and I still think about the environment and characters in this book, and the atmosphere the author created in this story. The book is for anyone looking for a great read - a great story well told.

I’ve always been fascinated with stories of life in harsh environments and I love mysteries, spy novels, and historical fiction. When the BBC ran a brief piece on the series of events recounted in this book, it seemed like a good time to take a break from my reading routine and I was not at all disappointed. The book is an amazing account of both the impact of political and economic change wrought by perestroika and its impact on both the human and animal populations of the far East of Russia, and especially the Amur tigers which are unique to that area. The book manages to weave very complex discussion of geopolitical and economic events into the retelling of the events leading up to the death of a hunter/trapper/poacher and the subsequent investigations and tracking down of a man-eating tiger. By the end of the book one can only feel immense sorrow for all of the characters in the story; not only the people left to fend for themselves in an unforgiving land, and the desperate situation the Amur tigers face as they lose their status as the majestic masters of the wild, as their numbers dwindle due to habitat destruction, poaching, and as their human neighbors slowly lose respect for the tigers’ position as a sacred part of the natural environment all these beings share. As it happens the humans and the tigers in this story share the same fate: They are all in decline and it’s a tragedy of monumental proportion. All in all the author has done an amazing job of telling this tale with respect and empathy for all the players, and this book is well worth a careful read.

The prose is thick with novelistic touches, which does its trick of drawing you in to this intense tale of a man-eating tiger that terrorizes the back woods of far eastern part of Russia. The book is at its best when it sticks closely to the main players and the plight of its people who live well below the poverty levels. They do not live they merely survive. The author goes in depth about the area's history in political back story, as well as the ecological, and socio-economical. These parts of the book can be tedious when all you want to do is dive back into the core story of survival and tiger hunting. The detailed information the author provides on these majestic Amur tigers is fascinating. They are the largest tiger species, some males grow to be as big as 900 lbs.The story eventually kicks in to high gear when Moscow gives the greenlight to hunt down the man-eating tiger. In these parts of the book it recalls the frenzied mob of amateur fishermen going after the shark in Jaws. The climactic confrontation between the tiger and the protagonist of the book is nothing short of cinematic. It's some exciting stuff.Incidentally, Hollywood may be getting closer to translating this book to the screen. Brad Pitt had been attached to star with Darren Aronofsky directing many years ago. They now have a new director attached (Michaël R. Roskam - The Drop). I hope they do the book justice.

I only read nonfiction occasionally and this book was recommended to me by my son, who lives in Alaska. He read it based on the recommendation of a friend who is an Arctic Biologist that had visited Pacific Russia regarding some Arctic Research and learned of the Amur Tiger issues.It was a very good book to read for many reasons beyond the story of this tiger. The explanations of living conditions in Russia from the 1980s through 1997 are extremely important to provide the background of the environmental and economic problems that Russia has been dealing with poorly since the breakup of the USSR. The author also touches on several other dilemmas that Russians face in their Pacific region, such as the nearby booming economies of China, South Korea and Japan and the lack of vision from Moscow for their future. Past attempts by the USSR to wipe out native peoples cultures, governmental corruption, and outdated laws and processes are all woven into the fabric of this story. This book should be on the reading list for college biology, ecology and Russian History classes.

Very good book, goes into a lot of low level detail. I would have given it 5 stars except for the fact that is is a bit out of date. It discussed MongoDB version 2.4.0 but the latest version is 3.2 and there have been a lot of improvements in MongoDB since 2.4.0.

I've checked for updates to the ebook on Oreilly but it doesn't look like they have incorporated changes. That being said, I haven't found another book for beginners so this might be it.

MongoDB is totally different now in 2019. This book is six years old. Nothing in this book works anymore. Especially with regard to sharding...

Well written, doesn't dwell on anything and moves at a nice pace. You could get a lot out of this book if you just need to know some MongoDB and not how to shard and distribute (even though it has all that). Great book to pick up. I learned most of what I needed to know in just a couple nights of reading. Lots more material if I needed to start deploying to production, and feel like I could do that with this book alone.

Good book. Explains everything in clear detail but based on old releases. New mongoDB releases have things which invalidates several limitations mentioned in this book.

After reading this book, I've totally fallen in love with MongoDB! Ms. Chodorow has provided a very easy to understand, highly comprehensive work on MongoDB; with example code for each MongoDB concept. It is definitely a classic and a "Must-have" for any decent NoSQL Document programmer.

I did not find this book helpful for my specific class/needs. There may be better documentation out there, as there is little on the IOT.

Good book if you are running pre-mongo 2.6, some of the commands in the book have been deprecated (e.g. addUser). It does however have some good general mongo information
