My 7-year-old has been obsessed with this book for weeks. He doesn’t want to read anything else, and he is so excited about what he has learned. I grew up loving Ranger Rick, and it’s so nice to see my son enjoying it, too.
Nice overview for young kids with budding interests
Love this book. I have a child that is really into fishing and he wouldn't put it down. Its a great reference for him to look over again and again!
Wish more fish were in it, but perfect amount of info and very informative for new fishers. Kids especially.

My grandson loves this book! He received it with a fishing pole and it was a perfect gift!
This guide to fishing will attract interest from children because there is a real compass embedded into the front cover. The children in my library kept picking it up from the new book display to play with the compass. For our purposes in a public library, the fact that the compass cannot be removed (at least not without damaging the book) works well. You could probably get it out by slicing the back of front cover, without totally destroying the book. The book includes lots of useful information written on a level for middle school readers. You will learn how to choose a fishing rod, what bait to use, how to cast, how to land a fish, how to clean that fish, how to tell how old your fish is, and more. The section I thought was most interesting was where the author tells you where the fish are most likely to be in a lake, stream, river, and pond, so you will know how to pick the best fishing spots. Though it is aimed at children, it would be useful to adults new to fishing as well. I enjoyed looking through it even though I have not been fishing in many years.
Good book. This book was part of a fishing/ outdoor decorations for a class party. We love Ranger Rick.
