Dan Allender has an unusual gifting with trauma. God has gifted him to see human suffering in a profound way. His concepts and ability to frame truth is enlightening and revealing. He is real, authentic, and transparent. His humility shines through every page. Many Christian psychologists come across as so holy they're impractical. Not Allender. He is on our side. He understands human trauma and betrayal, and he thinks deeply about it. It's obvious that he contemplates his own suffering and the suffering of his patients.But Allender is not only a practitioner, he is a brilliant scholar. And he possesses a unique skill in processing pain through his scholastic acumen and the anecdotal stories he has lived through vicariously. Secular psychology instructs therapists to detach themselves emotionally from their patients. Not so for Allender. It's clear from his writings that like Jesus he creates space where the pain of others becomes internalized and absorbed. The results are his many books, and I highly recommend any one of them.

I was comparing this kindle ed. to the Paper Edition of 3BOP, which I already own. All five pounds of it. So I thought it might be nice to have the kindle edition on my iPad. I clicked a link from the product page and was taken here... I should have questioned the veracity of the Kindle edition because the publisher wasn't Llewellyn. Short story... this is NOT Donald Tyson's edition and it should be REMOVED and Unlinked from that edition. If you want the foreword (a short biography of Agrippa, which is invaluable) and annotations made by Tyson this isn't it.It has NONE of Agrippa's tables, alphabets, sigils, figures, etc. Just the text. Which is nice, but it's not even the complete original work. Without the figures, it's USELESS. Every so often you'll see a sloppy hyperlink that didn't format well; a partial html address inserted into a sentence. Also missing are ALL of the Appendices added by Tyson.In short.... if you are serious about studying this book, you need the BOOK not a lame ripoff Kindle edition. I really wish Llewellyn would release a high quality ebook that is equal to the one they published on paper.Now I'm going to see if Kindle Editions can be refunded.

This is a good translation and one cannot deny that it is well worth the price asked. Even so, I rated it four stars due to the fact that it is described as illustrated when in fact many of the illustrations were not included in the e-book. Donald Tyson had offered a version via llewellyn publications that not only contains all the illustrations but also provides copius expanatory foot-notes to illuminate the text further. Therefore I recommend this rendition, but to make it more clearly understood consult with the Tyson edition.

Amazon needs to stop linking Kindle editions to printed texts that are different from these printed editions, as if they were equivalent. Especially in case of translations, where the edition is often paramount.

It's nice to have all three books in one neat format, however Tyson's translation is problematic. Tyson has been involved with the Golden Dawn and he inserts a lot his own planetary understandings into Agrippa's works, rendering the astrology and star magic sections questionable. You'll want to cross reference with other translations. Peterson's, to my mind, is the most complete and reliable at the time this review was written.

A classic for those into the occult! This edition is easy to read while it stays true to the original text and meaning. A recommended reading for any one practicing any form of magic!

Cornelius Agrippa's Three Books of Occult Philosophy must rank as one of, if not the most important work ever written on the Western Occult tradition. Written in relative youth, it nevertheless has an immensely broad range of topics covering malefic and benefic magic while still remaining in the Christian tradition. Agrippa's work certainly provides numerous practical instructions, but always ties together a wide range of classical and traditional sources in a broad theoretical framework. As a traditional astrologer I found Agrippa's exposition of astrological magic to be among the best available in English, on a par with the Kaske and Clarke translation of Marsilio Ficino's Three Books on Life. This is not surprising as Agrippa draws directly from Picatrix, De Imaginibus of Thabit Ibn Qurra, Hermes on the 15 Fixed Stars and other key astrological magic texts. Donald Tyson, the editor of this modern edition of the original 17th century English translation of Three Books of Occult Philosophy, has done a good job of providing references and citations, though he occasionally makes technical mistakes. A perusal of the Brill Latin critical edition of Three Books of Occult Philosophy can be useful in this respect. In common with other traditional sources Agrippa does not lay out a recipe style method of magic (step 1, a, b, c, step 2, etc.) Instead as he states in the final chapter of book III, he deliberately scatters information throughout the three books. This points the way to the best method to learn from and absorb what Agrippa has written: deep and repeated study, practice and meditation. If I could have only one book on the Western occult tradition (perish the thought!) this would be it. Anyone with a serious interest in studying or practicing in this area should have this book.

I absolutely love it. It is textbook-quality. It has a wealth of information about Agrippa's life, as well as other stuff. It is formatted as though it were a textbook, and loaded with sources, citations, footnotes, and commentaries. It seems like it was printed by a university's press. It is the ultimate source for somebody researching Agrippa, as well as an extremely spiritual and enlightening piece of illuminating literature for the student interested in alchemy and occult philosophy. Agrippa's language and writing are beautiful. I've been reading at least a chapter a day since I've gotten the book, in somewhat of the fashion of a daily bible reading. The chapters are short, but there is a lot to digest therein, and there are commentaries in the footnotes, which are almost as long as the chapter itself in some cases, that explain what Agrippa is talking about. This is one of the best transliterations of this work, and formatted for modern times I.E., Agrippa didn't use paragraph breaks in the original. I would definitely recommend this book to any student of the great work, or an academic researching the aforementioned topic.

This is a must have. If not for its concepts of the occult philosophy.

Really like this book, it's got a lot of good cases and notes. Could be better organized there to be more clear, with more in depth discussion of some key tort aspects rather than little brief sections on sometimes really unimportant issues.

I have changed title from best to excellent because I have looked at Cengel Boles 3rd ed in the mean time which in some explanations I found a little better, and it answered some questions that arose in my mind, like max work between equilibrium states.There seems to be a lot of parallelism between the two books which seems more than coincidental. Interesting.Padding seems to be an inevitable consequence of marketing. For self-study older, cheaper versions of both texts are readily available ($5). Unfortunateley, the poor students don't have that option.This text presents the principles of Thermodynamics clearly with no missing steps in the derivations and explanations, actually pretty unique for a text book. There are no maddening gaps in the development. Examples are clear and illustrative. I didn't try many problems. My objective was to create a concise, recallable structure of Thermodynamics in my mind.I personally don't like the term "Exergy." I find "Availability" a lot easier to think about and recall. Also, all those e's for energy, exergy, and environment are a nuisance to write clearly. The chapter on Exergy (Availability) is excellent but left one gap in my mind as to the meaning of exergy change. Is it the max attainable work between two states? If yes, why?I wish the authors would write a textbook on E&M. Talk about finding a clear, understandable, explanation for a subject, whew!

Has a good sol man.Written in calculus terms.Thermo is hard but it makes more sense when you dig into a book that builds on the calc you'd know instead of trying to dumb it down and make it more about memorising 100 bulls*** equations.This one will stay on the shelf.

This book is very handy when studying thermodynamics. The tables in the back of it are very complete and accurate. They are also easy to use with minimal instruction. Having both english and SI units in the tables is also quite convenient. These books usually come with a cd but mine was missing since the book was used when I bought it. I also have the 6th edition of this book but the 5th is organized differently and in my opinion is slightly better. Cycles are mentioned at the beginning and elaborated upon at the end so the information in between seems less random like it has a direction.

Great book, my professor for this class lacked a Ph.D and the ability to teach, so I was on my own for the most part. I nearly pulled an A in the course. On a technical note, they aren't so clear and/or make a few minor errors, be careful with the P-h diagrams.

I find it very enjoyable. No wonder it's one of the preferred Thermodynamics book. The examples are very clear and the problems at the end of each chapter are very useful.
