I was a frequent traveler to Memphis, mostly for business, but was able to sneak in some sightseeing now and then. I've been wanting to go back, and this book has lit the fire once again.What a great find. I thought seeing Graceland and Beale street were it, but I'm sadly mistaken. I especially like the tips thrown throughout the book.I can't wait to go back now!

This book was not worth the money I spent. The idea of the book was good but the content was disappointing. I would not recommend this book.

I have lived in Memphis for a very long time and this book motivated me get off my butt and become better acquainted with my city! It is a sad realization that there are a number of non-mainstream jewels for which I had no idea. Often, the only things you hear about Memphis are negative. Samantha Crespo does an excellent job in shining a light on the positive!

About the Author

A board-certified pediatrician with the American Academy of Pediatrics, Dr. Louis Borgenicht has run his own practice in Salt Lake City for the last 16 years. Firstly, my husband is not a book reader. In 16 years I've only known him to read a couple books. He likes news articles etc, but books are not his thing. I bought this not really sure if he would read it and he loved it! He didn't know much about babies and after I gave this to him he suddenly knew so much more than I imagined he would! I highly recommend it.

I gave my husband the baby owner's manual as part of a Christmas gift as I was 5 months pregnant at the time. This is our first child together. He’s a 33 year old man boy who has never even changed a diaper! It was supposed to be a funny gag gift but I read some of the pages and they were so funny AND informative things I couldn’t put it down. Everyone at our family Christmas celebration thought this was a fantastic gift and wanted a copy for their husband, son, etc.! My husband laughed but he read this entire book cover to cover in about a week. He's a really fast reader but he said that it was very funny and he learned a lot! The book had great diagrams of babies, their cribs, how to change a diaper, what to do in emergency situations, etc. But they always use terms that men would understand. The pages are colorful and thick. The cover was nice and sturdy and very colorful. Definitely fit for a man.Now that the baby is about 4 months old, he’s gone back to read over a few of the pages again for reference. For example, what to do after a baby has vaccinations. The baby ran a fever and I wasn’t home and he wasn’t quite sure what to do. He popped that book open and read over a few things and tried them and was able to make the baby feel better quickly. It has totally come in handy!

I love this book. This answers essentially all of the questions I had about becoming a father. It addresses things like how to prepare/organize your nursery, how to pick up your baby (with diagrams!), how and when to start feeding your baby. All of these things are probably common sense to people who are already parents, but if you're expecting your first, this will answer questions you may never have thought to ask. What's more, the book is written in a simple, humorous, easy-to-read way that makes its advice clear - it's hard to put down! I chose this book because it was written in part by a pediatrician, which means I feel most of the advice is coming from an evidence-based toolset. My wife is a pediatrician as well, and enjoyed (more importantly, agreed with) most of the book herself. There are a couple mild spots which are no longer up to date with American Academy of Pediatrics recommendations (I recommend you peruse their manual as well, though it's much longer and not nearly as fun), as there have been updates in the evidence since this book's last edition, but that shouldn't deter you - this book is all about the basics.

Finally! A non-sexist, to the point, book aimed at: mother, father, godparent, aunt, uncle, family friend, neighbor, etc without the expectation that you are either an idiot or have tons of experience with children. Fun read from start to finish and well organized for future quick reference. I purchased this as a gift, but received a Kindle 'sneak peak' and was so pleased with this purchase I look forward to giving this as a baby shower gift often.

A friend of mine is expecting his first baby next year! I was looking for a fun, yet informative book for him about babies and what to expect. This book IS just that, the pictures are good and the length is good too! HOWEVER, he struggles with a receptive disorder, so I was looking for something that was a more straight forward read. For the average reader, this would probably be just that, and I recommend it! - it's really good, informative and a funny book! But for anybody who struggles with reading or has receptive disorders, this book might be a little difficult to follow through with.

Even if you will never have a child and are just interested in a bit of information with a lot of laughs this is a great book to read. Due to the two page diagrams I HIGHLY recommend the paperback over the kindle version.

This book is awesome. I love the 'project'/mechanical approach that it takes when referring to the baby, and still includes sound suggestions, advice and instruction. My son and his wife ate highly competitive and I can easily imagine him comparing this book to her "What to Expect the 1st Year" I truly hunk the layout/approach is perfect for any new parent, but Dads especially, as it lends a comfortable frame of reference and terms. Instant confidence builder!!

I bought two of these books as gifts before my baby was due. The first one I got for my best friend who was going to be a first time "Aunt", and was a little apprehensive about helping care for a newborn, since she had little experience around babies. The second one I got for my husband as a shower gift to help him learn the basics. Both of them really enjoyed the read, it's humorous, but still informative. It's definitely a "beginners guide", I wouldn't purchase this for a mother- it really does just cover the basics of things like "How to Hold a Baby" or "How to Change a Diaper", etc. Useful info for those who have no idea what they're doing around babies (no shame in that!). Not much re-read value, but does help learning these things a bit more fun. Great gift for clueless caregivers everywhere!

I just got the Kindle edition and to my surprise, it is NOT as described.The description says:"eTextbook features: Page numbers are just like the physical edition"That is not the case at all.The Kindle Version is in the e-Pub standard and doesn't have page numbers. It is one of those "modern" (I call them useless) formats that the width of the text changes as you adjust the screen.It may work for some books, but not for science and text books in which a lot of references are made by page number.If your professor says to check the second paragraph on page 124... you are lost.

This the THIRD edition is the one I use as a supplement to C Programming: A Modern Approach, 2nd ed.by K. N. King. Very well organized. Later editions retain the title but shift focus. K&R remains a valuable reference but the pace is unsuitable for my beginning Computer Science students. I teach C and structured programming to beginners and move on to C++ (with a side trip to SmallTalk) to teach Object Oriented Programming. Once students master programming they can readily add Java, Python, C# or what have you.

I recently started programming in C again after not having done so in over a decade, and found that I needed to relearn it. I therefore needed a text at the appropriate level to lead me at my chosen pace.I'd previously purchased three texts -- The C Programming Language by Kernighan and Richie (the K&R), C Primer Plus by Stephen Prata, and this one, Programming in C by Stephen Kochan -- but I needed to choose one as my main study text. Like Goldilocks, I tried all three texts to find that the K&R was too terse, the Prata was too verbose, but the Kochan was just right, so that's the one I chose.The Kochan is a well-written text, helping one navigate the vagaries of C with the right level of guidance, but without excessive hand-holding. Consequently, readers are often exposed to reasonably advanced topics early on in a cursory manner, as preparation for a more advanced treatment later in the text.The text not only covers syntax, but provides clear explanations of usage, accompanied by appropriate examples to further illuminate the concepts. Sometimes, however, readers are expected to connect the dots, but given the logical structure of the text, this serves to enhance learning.The pace of the Kochan is more relaxed than that of the frenzied K&R, but brisker than that of the soporific Prata. This pace is appropriate for beginning to intermediate readers. Absolute beginners will probably opt for the hand-holding of the Prata, while advanced readers will almost-certainly prefer the K&R.My only gripe with this text is the absence of answers to the exercises. No answers are provided in the text. However, answers can be found on Stephen Kochan's new website at [...], but only to odd-numbered questions. He says this was a compromise between the demands of teachers, who wanted no answers, and students, who wanted all answers provided.As a side note, I also bought a Kindle copy of this book as a complement to the printed text so that my text could accompany me wherever I go. I'm thoroughly enjoying this book, and I highly recommend it.

*** DO NOT BUY THIS EDITION ***Buy a cheaper, used 3rd edition instead. There's absolutely NO DIFFERENCE between the two editions except some useless rewording ("What's all the fuss" changed to "What's the big deal", are you f***ing kidding me??) and a *very* brief mention of C11, probably two sentences in the entire book. They didn't even bother fixing the mistakes in the exercises, the exercise to calculate the number of elapsed days between two dates is still wrong.DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS EDITION.[that's why the 1 star, I still endorse 5 star the 3rd edition]

This book has a ton of good information for beginners, but I found myself lost and confused several times at things that it assumed I already knew and we're not explained until further in the book. Thankfully my professor was always readily available to clear up any doubts or misunderstandings.The book is really useful if you have access to someone who can elucidate on anything you might not grasp on your own. Google searching can help as well.

As a an old retired guy, I simply wanted to update my programming skills. I learned to program in Fortran while getting my ChemEng degree in what seems to be about a million years ago. What is so delightful about this book is that it is on my kindle and is very easy to read and understand. I am truly happy with it!

If you're learning a programming language for the first time and don't know if you should learn java, c++, and c or any other programming language, I strongly encourage you to learn C first. I know some universities like to teach java or C++ to first year students but if you learn C before you will have no problems learning any other programming Language. This book is excellent. The writer is very easy to understand and gives a lot of information and the examples/codes really help you understand how to become a better programmer. I will buy more books from the writer, his method and style are excellent.

-Like I stated above.--This book does an excellent job of building you to more and more advanced concepts. The book is well written for first time programmers, with little to no experience. The author really can't make it any easier than he did in this book. Many of the first few chapters can be skipped if you are only using this book to quickly learn C, and have some basic knowledge already.-All the positive reviews are on point.-This book is an excellent book for really learning C.
